Apartment Fiasco

If possible from here on out, we will live on base, or not rent from swindlers. I can't say either of us were really thrilled with the overall experience at Legacy Corner Apt. It is a gated community, but the gate is broken 75% of the time meaning you cannot at times get out, or everyone can get in. I should also mention that we live at Tenth and Air Depot, and the police like to fondly refer to the area north of and including Tenth as the Panic Zone... because if you're there after night, you should be paniced. Not exactly comforting...

So I can honestly say I do a pretty mean white glove clean. I like to do my absolutely best in cleaning and sanitizing the apt. before the last inspection. It's a respect thing more then a "I don't want extra fees" thing. This was the Friday before my birthday and Kevin was working but it was the last day to clean and get everything out before our final walk through. Most everything had already been taken to storage. As I was cleaning it became apparent to me, just how cheaply constructed the entire apt was, and how many "corners had been cut". As I washed the walls, the paint in spots washed off too. This complex does not paint after tenants move out... it's the tenants job. They will however provide the paint if you bring them a tupaware to hold it in. I was told someone would be waiting for me at the shed... I waited for an hour.

As I was washing walls... Yuki decided to try the ammonia water. He's fine but it really stressed me out at the time. I was sure he was going to die. I called the vet and then he had me call someone else who wanted to charge $55 over the phone... during my emergency this was not what I wanted to hear. I gave him clean, albeit, toilet water, and took him outside to eat grass. The ammonia solution was really diluted, and it did no harm.

One of the things remaining to be disposed of was an old boxspring. It was queen size, and I had no truck. I hauled it to the dumpster by myself... on a windy day. Needless to say I was having a bad day. It's really just little things but all together it made me pretty grumpy. Lastly, Kevin and I were intending on replacing the carpet. Yuki was still dealing with some anxiety issues when we moved in and with no yard, the carpet paid the price. (Don't worry parentals, he will only be inside with supervision.) Anyway, this carpet is the cheapest of bulk carpets available, we'd seen the exact match at lowes and home depot in the back... really cheap stuff. It was also in less the perfect condition when we had moved in. It had huge dark visible spots all over it. Well, first they wanted us to clean it anyway, professionally. I don't see the point of washing carpet that's going to be thrown away, seems like a waste of resources and money to me. My money. So no, that wasn't going to happen, though I did vacuum it very nicely. Then they wanted to charge us over a thousand dollars to replace it. With the size of our apt. excluding the non-carpet areas, and the cost of labor, over a thousand is ludacrous. Plus, they refused to use the pet deposit for pet damages. I was under the impression that that's what pet deposits are for? They replied that it was for the privilege of having a dog, and the cost of doggy bags. I told them we would pay $500, no more. So they settled on $600. I'm still not thrilled about it. I would have been more eager to work with them if we hadn't overhead them discussing us, loudly, when they were unware we had come into the office/lounge area.

After all of that I was at my wits end, and now writing about it, it all seems a little silly. Kevin had made reservations for us at the Melting Pot for my Bday bash Saturday but after coming home to me, sweaty, covered in paint and dirt, and ready to cry, he changed the reservation to that night. Yay! I was so excited and had been hoping we'd go there. It's really expensive but worth it at least once. Unfortunately I had packed most all of Kevins clothes and the only thing left for him to wear was his uniform. He did get three handshakes and "thank yous, for your service". It always makes my heart warm to see and hear that but I know were lucky because people aren't going to be like that everywhere we go.
