There are a lot of changes going on in our lives and things are about to start moving quickly. A lot is still unsure and we are slowly and painfully becoming experts in last minute planning. Kevin is scheduled to deploy the 25th of this month and depending on what time he leaves that day, I will head to Boise. Kara is kind enough to fly out and then drive up with me so I don't have to make the 22 hour drive alone. While in Boise I will work at Indian Lakes Golf Course as a lifeguard and hopefully find another job to keep me busy and help build savings for school. Kevin will be gone for four months give or take a few days or weeks. We're planning to have him home sometime in the end of September/beginning of October. If we have the funds, not sure at the moment thanks to unplanned expenses recently, we will go to Tokyo, Japan for one and a half to two weeks! I'm very excited and hope it works out. It'll be Kevin's fourth? time over there. Sometime in the summer I'll go down to Ellensburg, WA. Ellensburg is home of Central Washington University, where both of us were recently accepted for the January 2011 quarter. Kevin's enlistment is up the end of January 2011 so we've applied for early release to further education. We haven't heard back yet so cross your fingers that we're allowed to separate December 23rd and will have time to move in and start at school. I'll check Ellensburg out this summer and hopefully find somewhere to live for when we move up in December. After working all summer I'll move back to Oklahoma and find somewhere for us to live for...two/three months before we move to Washington. Anyone other than me find this exhausting just thinking about it? Hopefully TMO will move us from OK to WA and I won't have to pack everything again on my own. So that's the plan as of now, and if we're not accepted for early release then we'll just reapply for the the next quarter at CWU which starts in March.
Kevin wants to commission in the United States Air Force and make it a career. Though military life is demaning and unpredictable we both love it, and I support him in this ambition one hundred percent. He's been in contact with Major Wilson at CWU, the AFROTC commander and meets basic requirements, and has been encouraged to go through the program. On top of that they are offering him an accelerated scholarship for which he meets requirements, if he majors in Japanese. Though not exactly a practical degree in the civilian world, Japanese is a needed language by the air force and he would be paid extra for having that skill as well as having higher retainability. He also loves the language and culture and I could see him teaching it later in life.
As for me, I am leaning towards a degree in Psychology. I've recently taken some classes that have led me in that direction. It's also something that I've considered for quite some time but you have to be a strong person to deal with the negativity and the problems that are weighing down so many. I wasn't sure if I was resilient enough to maintain my sanity. However, what it comes down to is that I want to do some good. I'd like to pursue a career in counseling, especially if I'm going to be able to help military personnel and families cope.
We are waiting to start a family until we finish school, but when we do, if we're can financially make it happen, I'll be a stay at home mom. Until then I just have to love up my adorable nephews.
OK, now I get it. Good luck and keep plugging away at that school.
ReplyDeleteGreat update! Good luck with it all, it does seem overwhelming, but I know it will all work out for you guys - you're committed to your plan, so what could go wrong?!? Just to add, your nephews will soak up the love...never too many hugs and kisses! Hope to see you sometime soon!
